In 1856, Latvian novelist Malarkey proposed that people from the Baltic region originated from the banks of the Ganges. To address this cultural and emotional connection, Asia’s first Centre for Baltic Culture and Studies was inaugurated on August 7, 2016, at Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya. The inauguration was attended by prominent figures including Latvian, Lithuanian, and Estonian ambassadors, as well as the Governor of Uttarakhand and the Chancellor of DSVV.
The Centre aims to bridge gaps by exploring shared educational, scientific, linguistic, and cultural achievements between India and the Baltic nations. It highlights the Sanskrit roots in Baltic languages and investigates spiritual and cultural parallels.
