Location & Travel

Haridwar is well connected by road, rail, and air. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant (Dehradun). Visitors are encouraged to use public transport due to limited parking facilities.

Travel Advice

Haridwar is a stunning city with a wealth of offerings for visitors of all ages, and we highly recommend a visit if you are contemplating applying to the University. For maps and additional travel details, please refer to our resources.

⌈ Travelling by car

Haridwar, being a compact city with various traffic restrictions and limited parking, encourages visitors, if possible, to avoid traveling by private vehicles. We strongly recommend utilizing the public transport system. In cases where driving into Haridwar is unavoidable, please refer to up-to-date traffic information for details on local road works and any potential disruptions. It’s important to note that there is no visitor parking available at the University buildings.

⌈ Traveling by flight/train
Haridwar is well connected with all the major cities of India by both flight and train. The nearest airport is Dehradun Jolly Grant and the train station is at Haridwar City itself.

Luggage & Belongings

Make a checklist of all the basic things you need to carry. As Haridwar is a small city, if you have any specific needs, better you should buy it beforehand.

You are not allowed to keep electric room heaters, immersion rods to heat water, LPG or other gas cylinders, etc.

You need to bring a mattress, bedsheets, pillows and other daily need stuff like small utensils, buckets, etc.

Boys need to wear white Kurta Pajama/dhoti kurta and girls’ white salwar kurta/sari as a dress code in DSVV premises. If you don’t have them, kindly get them tailored.

If you are on some regular medication, carry stock for at least three months, so that you don’t have to worry about it during your initial settling down phase.

Avoid carrying precious metals/jewelry with you, as DSVV will not take responsibility if you accidentally lose them or they get stolen.

Accommodation

DSVV is a fully residential campus:

  • Undergraduate students: Shared dormitories
  • Postgraduate students: Twin-sharing rooms

Campus Guidelines

Guide to Registration

Kindly go through the syllabus of each course available here https://www.dsvv.ac.in/syllabus/ before starting of the registration process. If you have any doubts you can get in touch with the concerned department beforehand and be sure of what all courses you want to choose for registration. You must be registered to:

1) Login to Student Portal

    3) Submit your choices
    2) Select Elective Courses
    4) Electives will be assigned on merit as per the criteria provided

You need to register at the start of each semester. You must meet the conditions of the registration as per the registration guidelines provided to you.

Maintaining your Record

It is your responsibility to keep your personal information and contact details updated throughout your studies at DSVV. You can do so by sending an Email to erp.cell@dsvv.ac.in from your registered Email ID.

Managing Your Time

For our new students, the experience with time management varies, and to assist in developing essential skills, we provide substantial support at the beginning of your degree. This includes:

  • Guidance from your faculty to help you kick-start your journey.
  • An induction to your department or faculty library, including explanations of the layout and how to navigate resources.
  • Life management courses that offer study skills and time management training to empower you in your academic pursuits.

Student Responsibilities

It is your responsibility:

• To act as a responsible member of the University, including treating other members and the public with courtesy and respect.

    • To progress your academic studies, which will include submitting work when required to do so, meeting University deadlines, and attending practicals, classes, and lectures
    • To comply with any measures or instructions given by the University to reduce the risk of transmission of any illness or infection and behave in accordance with health and safety instructions (e.g. following distancing procedures, if required).
    • You must also immediately declare to your department if you have any serious and easily transmissible infectious illness
    • To seek help or raise concerns if you are having difficulty in any area of your academic or pastoral life. For academic issues please contact your supervisor or department in the first instance
    • To follow good academic practice, including following the University’s policies and regulations, conduct in class and examinations, plagiarism, academic integrity in research, conflict of interest, the ownership and exploitation of intellectual property, harassment, the use of IT and library
    • facilities, health and safety issues and legislative requirements such as data protection, etc.
    • To ensure that your fees and other charges are paid when they are due. You are responsible for any non-payment even if a third party is paying your fees
    • To follow the hostel rules and regulations and dress code and to comply with all departmental regulations, codes, and guidelines published from time to time
    • Do not use University facilities for your business purposes
    • Not to represent any party and that you are not authorized to speak on behalf of the DSVV or your department
    • Not to sign any document on behalf of the DSVV or your department or use any of the names, marks, logos or letterheads of the University or your department except in the course of your participation in an academic project and with the prior written permission of the Head of Department.

By taking admission to DSVV:

• You agree to treat details of any procedures, projects or research of which you become aware in the course of your work or your visits to the University as strictly confidential and not to disclose such information to any person without express written permission to do so unless the information is already in the public domain.

    • You agree to comply with the DSVV’s health and safety Instructions setting out standards of behavior required of you during any pandemic, epidemic, or local health emergency.
    • You agree that the University may take disciplinary action against you for breach of its statutes, policies, and regulations. Such action would take place under the appropriate procedure and could result in sanctions including rustication, expulsion including a monetary fine.

Indian Arts & Cultural Life

DSVV’s unwavering commitment to the rich tapestry of Indian culture is embodied by the ‘Sanskritik Prakosth’ division. This dedicated unit focuses on preserving, propagating, and presenting Indian arts, music, dance, and folk songs, earning national acclaim through various awards. Collaborating with Spic Macay, the division brings traditional Indian heritage to life through captivating performances at DSVV. Embracing the ethos of sustainability, the university practices recycling, and crafting materials from paper to cloth by hand in line with Indian artisan traditions. DSVV is buzzing with cultural events, providing something for everyone’s interests. Whether it’s through DSVV or its parent organization, Shantikunj, you have the opportunity to actively participate in activities aligned with your interests. Additionally, a small market around the university compound adds to the vibrant atmosphere, offering more to explore and enjoy.

Co and Extracurricular Activities

DSVV has over 10 clubs for you to actively participate in, catering to a range of interests from the expected to more niche offerings. Engaging in extra-curricular activities not only adds excitement and provides a platform to connect with others but also serves as an excellent opportunity to develop skills that will prove valuable throughout your life, enhancing even your CV.

• Student-led clubs (https://www.dsvv.ac.in/clubs/) dedicated to gender equity and women’s issues, encompassing themes like women’s leadership and women in STEM. This initiative extends to student-led self-defence classes tailored for women students.

    • Workshops and training sessions on unconscious bias, intersectionality, and ally-ship aim to educate both students and staff on the significance of gender equity. These initiatives include events such as Kanya Kaushal Shivir and Women’s Day celebrations.
    • Safe spaces are established to provide a secure and inclusive environment for all individuals, irrespective of their gender identity.
