The Department of Tourism Management in the University has been established as a center for advanced Culture and Tourism Education Research. Currently the Department and its courses have been upgraded to meet the requirements of current Tourism Industry at National& International Level. The objective of the department is to provide the foundation of higher learning and research in the field of tourism. Highlighting the grandeur, heritage and culture to develop the region in the field of tourism.

Aims and Objectives:

Course Objectives:
This course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of research in Hospitality & Tourism. Research Scholars will be introduced to various research designs, different data handling techniques. Additionally, they will learn how to prepare a professional research report, equipping them with essential skills for effective research.
Course Outcomes:
CO1: Understand the concept of research in Hospitality & Tourism.

Unit : 1. Introduction to Tourism and Hospitality Industry:
Evolution of Tourism and Hotel Industry, Scope and Significance of Tourism and Hospitality, Hotel Departments: Functions and Interrelations, Organizational Structure of Hotels: Hierarchies and Operations, Travel Agency: Importance in Tourism Management, Functions of Major Departments within Travel Agencies
Unit 2 : Academic Approaches to Tourism and Hospitality:
The geography of tourism effects (Economic, Social and Environmental), Anthropology of tourism and hospitality, Tourism, Tourist and host, Sociology of Tourism, Types of Holidays, Psychology, Motivation, Personality, Attitudes, Environment and the Tourist.
Unit 3 : Emerging Trends in Tourism and Hospitality:
Emerging Trends in Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Types and Typologies of Tourist, Tourism and Hospitality products, Innovations, Opportunities in Tourism and Hospitality industry, Health Tourism, Rural Tourism, Adventure Tourism, Eco Tourism, Cultural Tourism, Sustainable Tourism, Spiritual Tourism, Natural Tourism, Tourism Planning, Role of Government, Public, Private Partnerships. Distinctive characteristics of Hospitality Industry – Inflexibility, Intangibility, Perishability, fixed location, relatively large financial investment etc.; Concepts of Atithi Devo Bhavah; Hotel and the other lodging facilities; types of hotels and hotel departments; classification of hotels; chain operations; E- Hospitality.
Unit 4 : Tourism Planning and Policy:
Tourism planning – Role of Govt. public and private sectors in formulation of tourism policy; Roles of international, national, state and local tourism organizations in carrying out tourism policies. Tourism planning for thrust areas, special tourism areas & zones identified by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Sustainable tourism development, Pro-poor Tourism and Community Participation; Responsible tourism.
Tourism Policy – Factors influencing tourism policy; National Tourism Policy, Levels of Tourism planning – International, national, regional, state and local, the traditional, approach and PASLOP method of tourism planning; important feature of five year tourism plans in India; Elements Agents, Processes and typologies of tourism development; State tourism policies. National Planning Policies for Destination Development- WTO Guidelines for Planners – Role of urban civic bodies: Town planning -Characteristics of rural tourism planning.
Unit 5: Hospitality and Tourism Research:
Problems encountered by researchers, quality of hospitality and tourism research, Selection of research problems, Preparation of effective questionnaires, Broad aspects of research design in social and Tourism research, Importance of research in Tourism. Global challenges, Challenges of Tourism and hospitality education and research, Statistical and analytical tools in Tourism Research.

Exploring Entrepreneurial Opportunities for Uttarakhand Tourism and Rural Sustainability

Dr. Tushar Panchal, Group CEO, Gujrat Technological University delivered an insightful lecture on "Exploring Entrepreneurial Opportunities for Uttarakhand Tourism and Rural Sustainability" at a recent seminar jointly Organised by Department of Tourism and Institutional Innovation counseling, Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar.
Dr. Jwalant Bhavasar skillfully anchored the session. Theme setting was done by Head of dept, Tourism Management, Dr. Arunesh Parashar, who provided insightful perspectives on the critical intersection of sustainability and entrepreneurship. Emphasizing on the region's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, Dr. Panchal highlighted the untapped potential for sustainable tourism ventures. He outlined strategies for leveraging local resources, promoting eco-friendly practices, and fostering community involvement to boost the local economy. Dr. Panchal also discussed innovative business models that could attract investments and create job opportunities in rural areas. The lecture concluded with a call to action for entrepreneurs and stakeholders to collaborate and drive sustainable growth in Uttarakhand's tourism sector. Following this, Dr. R.K. Gupta sir discussed the nuances of rural sustainability, shed light on innovative strategies for empowering rural communities through sustainable practices. At last question and answer session was done with the queries of students. The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Dr. Umakant Indolia, who expressed gratitude to all the speakers and participants for their contributions to a thought-provoking and informative discussion

World Tourism Day is celebrated annually on September 27. It's a day dedicated to promoting tourism and highlighting its social, cultural, and economic value. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) organizes this event, and each year there is a different theme that focuses on various aspects of tourism. The goal is to foster awareness among the international community about the importance of tourism and its impact on sustainable development.

On 22th July 2024 there was Gyan Diksha to welcome new students. On that day our H.O.D Dr. Anuresh sir has published the book by the hand of our Pro vice chancellor Dr. Chinmay Pandya.
A short interview has been taken about the book . He said, my book name is “HEALTH TOURISM” and now’s a day’s people only know about health tourism as a medical purpose. People not see it as tourism. I have describe the health tourism in three types Natural, Wellness, Medical how they interacts to make the health tourism as tourism. In the book there are various steps of management. How we can manage the health tourism in various factor. In book we can find various references regarding the health tourism.
In coming days, various courses will be bring . we run one department in tourism and if possible we will have separate department in hospitality. Various level of research will be done by students of department. Various programs and activities are been taken up by department.
